About two years ago, roughly around this time, I got caught up in the galactic storm that is the Cosmos Collection by Vapid Lacquer. I was still really stretching my legs as a swatcher back then and those multichromes just came out and ruined me! They were in their second release back then and all six of the originals got Krys’ dirty treatment being, the addition of silver holographic flecks. Since that last release, the Cosmos Collection has always been highly sought after. Now, they’re back!
What’s the best news, apart from the actual rerelease of course. This collection will be available as a preorder, yay! So, breathe easy! Okay now, buckle up and settle in, this post is photo heavy with lots of shifts and bends. …queue Doctor Who intro…
Vapid Lacquer Cosmos Collection 2019
Now, about the polishes themselves. While these shades are exactly like the original, Krys gave these a mega upgrade pigment wise. I did a quick and dirty comparison shot to show you the difference. In the image below, I selected two of the polishes, one from each year and applied one coat on each fingernail (they’re labeled). There’s no topcoat here, just that one coat. You can tell that the shade is the same but it just builds to opacity much quicker. The pigment upgrade has been done for both the OG and Dirty Holo versions.
One more thing (…I know, I know)! Since the Dirty Holo XXX versions of these polishes are the exact same polishes just with the addition of silver holographic flecks, I may or may not have additional notes on those.
Canis Majoris just straight up gives me mermaid vibes! Stamps some scales on it and boom! Canis Majoris shifts from teal green to blue to violet with peeks of gold and copper at extreme angles. It applies smoothly and is easy to wear. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

If you are new to Krys’ Dirty Holos, this is a good time to get in on it. Here, Canis Majoris has the exact same siren-esque color shifts but this is jazzed up by the addition of silver holographic flecks. The slightest movement will activate their rainbow of color.
These flecks do not interfere with the polish application, they lay well and stay smoothly on the nail. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
Cosmic Pearls, you sexy beast! This polish wooed me the last time and it continues to do so. Cosmic Pearls is a warm multichrome base, going from deep wine red then shifting to copper then to gold. Do I spot a hint of green in there too…? Maybe! I just love how the mix of these shades sit on my nails and yell “you’re mine”! Ditto, darlin’! This was nearly one coat for me, buttery in its application. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

Green polish lovers! Are you clutching your pearls too? I have no excuse; I’ve worn Crab Nebula several times before. But here I am being all thirsty. Crab Nebula shifts through shades of bronze to copper to gold, reaching to a vibrant green with touches of blue at angles. Here, I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

I really like how the flecks don’t overtake the polish here, but they just add a little extra flair to an already spectacular shade.
Ooo! Another favorite! Yes, I have six pairs of favorites! But, grr…look at Magellanic Cloud; its so damn pretty! So. Many. Colors! Magellanic Cloud smoothly jumps between purple and pink, copper and green and a bright wash of gold. Again, the application is easy with a great consistency. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

For me, Milky Way quickly and effortlessly captures a galactic color scheme. This multichrome shifts from purple to pink, blue to violet with far reaches of gold, bronze and orange. I found Milky Way to be the lightest (pigment wise) of the set, needing a bit more building up than the others. I’m wearing three coats with a glossy topcoat.

I love how easily the holographic flecks helps transform this to a quick galaxy mani. All the shifts and bends of color just add to the intrigue.
There’s no wrong way to wrap up this space trip, but Pandora’s Cluster is a good way to do it. Another one of the warm beauties, this multichrome shifts from violet to purple to red with a wash of orange to copper. There’s also the slightest touch of blue. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

I have such fond memories attached to this collection. I truly hope those of you who have been longing to get it are able to do so this time around.
