The Pickups are paying homage to the ’80s this month! This has presented me, an ’80s baby a fun walk down nostalgia street, equipt with both smiles and cringe. As I mentioned before, I’ve taken a break while recovering from surgery so my load ranges between significantly lower to nearly non-existent. I still had the great pleasure of reviewing three products for this round; one nail polish and two waxes. Let’s take quick peek at Polish Pickup May 2019 under the theme, I Love The ’80s!
Polish Pickup is a fun Facebook Group where members submit and vote for one theme for the month. Afterward, indie makers create a polish or product based on the decided theme. Members can make purchases through the Polish Pickup website during the four-day shopping window, where you can pick as little or as many items as you desire. The flat rate shipping price of US $3.00/CAD $5.00 is the cherry on top. Evidenced by its rapid growth, PPU is a very clever concept that has introduced me to many new indie brands, as well as given a wider stage for smaller, well-loved ones.
Recently Indie Pickup has been following the same sale and shipping schedules as Polish Pickup and this month, posts from makers are being combined in the Polish Pickup Facebook group. Indie Pickup was created to house most of the extra non-polish items that came along after the explosive growth of Polish Pickup. All your Pickup products in one place!
Cameo Colours Lacquers – Princess of Power
She-Ra
This month, Cameo drew inspiration from the cartoon, She-Ra – Princess of Power. I will confess that I am not familiar with this show apart from knowing that there was a recent reboot from Netflix. Princess of Power is described as an off white crelly base with Ultra Chrome Chameleon flakes that shift copper, gold and fuchsia UCC and, micro flakes in hot pink, silver, and gold micro flakes. Additionally, there is a pretty shimmer that shifts red, magenta and gold, as well as scattered holographic sparkle. This polish shows up with a pink hue which is brought on by that vibrant shimmer. Princess of Power applied without issue. I’m wearing three coats with a glossy topcoat.

Necessary Evil (Wax) – E. T.’s Crack
E. T.’s Reeces Pieces
Tamara was inspired by the 1982 Spielberg science fiction movie, E. T.! Specifically, she focused on E. T.’s love of Reeces Pieces and drinking beer! That scene of him getting smashed still cracks me up; poor buddy! E. T.’s Crack carries the sweet and salty scent of peanut butter, sugar cookie, butter and a touch of beer. On cold sniff, the sweetness of the cookie hits first and is tempered by the creamy peanut butter. Once melted, the mixture of the top notes merge into a creamy cookie scent. I can’t say that I spotted the beer in there but this definitely falls into the sweet, dessert column. The throw is pretty good; I used one “treat” and the scent was able to fill my office and creep to the hallway.
Each packet carries 3.5 oz of soy based wax. The wax comes in the shape of flat, circular disks in shades of brown, yellow and orange without any added embellishments.
$6.00 for 3.5 oz of wax // no cap

Vapid Wax – Night Swept
Drakkar Noir
Rounding this post off is Jenn’s contribution, Night Swept! If you’re were anywhere around the 1980s, then you’ve most likely smelled someone drenched in Drakkar Noir. My dad wore this fragrance sometimes and although I hadn’t smelled it in years, sniffing Night Swept brought me right back.
Vapid Wax’s Night Swept is the perfect bathroom scent to me, and the perfect smell-alike for Michael Scott. This is described as a blend of coriander, sandalwood, juniper berries and woods with hints of lavender and tangy citrus. On cold sniff, the first smells that hit are earthy tones of the coriander and sandalwood, mixed with the crispness of the juniper berries. This distinct earthy, woodsy scent carries through while melting with only a hint of sweetness from the lavender. Night Swept would be categorized as a fresh, clean scent with earthy properties. It has a great throw, with one piece filling up my bathroom and bedroom and lingering in the hallway.
Night Swept is colored grey and comes in a 3 oz clamshell block. I spotted a little bit of micro-glitter while melting.
$5.00 for 3 oz of wax // no cap
