This weekend, we welcome a new round of goodies from Polish Pickup. This time, the makers came together under the theme, Flora and Fauna! I’ve been completely wowed by the creations I’ve seen so far and I’m pleased to share 18 with you. Let’s take a look!
Polish Pickup is a fun Facebook Group where members submit and vote for one theme for the month. Afterward, indie makers create a polish or product based on the decided theme. Members can make purchases through the Polish Pickup website during the four-day shopping window, where you can pick as little or as many items as you desire. The flat rate shipping price of US $3.00/CAD $5.00 is the cherry on top. Evidenced by its rapid growth, PPU is a very clever concept that has introduced me to many new indie brands, as well as given a wider stage for smaller, well-loved ones.
Recently Indie Pickup has been following the same sale and shipping schedules as Polish Pickup and this month, posts from makers are being combined in the Polish Pickup Facebook group. Indie Pickup was created to house most of the extra non-polish items that came along after the explosive growth of Polish Pickup. The Facebook group still exists but has been made redundant, with all sharing being move to the Polish Pickup Facebook Group. All your Pickup products in one place!
Polish Pickup February 2020 – Flora and Fauna
Cameo Colours Lacquers – Feather In the Foliage
Cameo entwined both Flora and Fauna in her offering this month, Feathers in the Foliage. She drew inspiration from an image of a colorful red Macaw among tropical leaves. The polish has a vibrant leafy green crelly base, bursting with a variety of ultrachrome flakes, gold metallic micro flakes, and silver holographic micro flakes. It applies smoothly with little to no texture. I’m wearing two to three coats with a glossy topcoat.
While I personally did not share in this experience, Cameo cautions that the green base may cause staining.

Cupcake Polish – Bluebonnet

Texas girl, Sara, chose her state flower as her inspiration for the Flora & Fauna theme. Bluebonnet has a medium blue base brimming with a glowing aurora shimmer that moves from pink to gold to green. The shift is incredibly intense with lots of action from minimal movement. I’m wearing three coats with a glossy topcoat.

Glisten & Glow – Pink Gerbera Daisies

Jill was inspired by her favorite flowers! They were her wedding bouquet flowers and now serve as the namesake for her polish. Pink Gerbera Daisies has a bright neon pink crelly base, brimming with mixed size and shape black and black holographic glitters. I love how this pops against my skin. There is a bit of a bumpy texture from the glitters, so a good application of topcoat is needed. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

Glisten & Glow – Pomegranate Punch Cuticle Pen Duo
In addition to nail polish, Jill has a yummy smelling cuticle care duo for us this month in Pomegranate Punch scent. This scent features juicy pomegranate with tangy orange zest. The Cuticle Remover helps soften and remove excess cuticle and eponychium skin. The Cuticle Oil helps nourish and moisturize nails and surrounding skin. Both the come in a twist up style, brush tip applicator pen. See one of the shots below for the ingredients. Not sold separately.
I’ve been using this cuticle oil non stop since unwrapping it and I’m obsessed with it. I don’t say this lightly; I own shameful amounts of cuticle oils from numerous brands. Apart from the luscious scent, this blend feels so light on my skin and absorbs quickly. My skin shows oiliness and shine very easily but I don’t battle that with Jill’s oil.

Great Lakes Lacquer – The Greatest Gift & Honor

Mariah has a wicked pastel multichrome, inspired by Mulan. Who else is ready for the live action?! The Greatest Gift And Honor is a soft, petal pink, pastel multichrome with color movements of aqua, lilac, fuchsia and a bit of gold dancing at the edges. Seeing this beauty in the bottle, applying it on the nail then letting light hit it is something to behold. It presents as demure, but the shifts, especially to fuchsia, really punch you in the face! I’m wearing three coats with top coat.

Jior Couture – Avian Kaleidoscope

Here, we have Avian Kaleidoscope! An image of a kaleidoscope hummingbird inspired Sacha’s polish this month. Avian Kaleidoscope has a holographic multichrome base that moves between purple, gold and tan-green. It contains a variety of micro flakes and multichrome micro flakes. Once the magnet is applied, a subtle purple to pink pull appears. The flakes in here show lots of color which is a nice contrast to the base. As usual with magnets, I’m wearing three coats with a glossy topcoat.

JReine Cosmetics – Blooms of Serenity

The second pretty pastel multichrome we have comes from Jill. Blooms of Serenity has a delicate silver, sparkly base with entrancing shifts from violet, fuchsia, gold, green and blue! The violet and fuchsia presents the most forward with the other shades appearing at angles. The polish is buildable and can be used as a topper. I’m wearing three coats with a glossy topcoat.

KB Shimmer – Freesia Sugar Scrub
Christy has another exfoliating and moisturizing sugar scrub for us this month. This one boasts the fresh and floral scent of freesias. Also mingled are floral notes of muguet and a deepening tone of white musk. The scrub is mainly white with swirls of purple and pink. I’m not a huge fan of floral scents but I found this one pleasant.
There is something about freesia that just makes me smile. Seeing that array of happy hues in any arrangement sparks pure joy, while the bright scent brings to mind the spring season – and one of my favorite body sprays from the 90’s! ….If you are longing for warmer weather, you don’t want to miss this scrub! It’s sure to bring a little springtime to your bathroom any time of the year – Christy

KB Shimmer – Let It Beetle

Look at this stunner! For this shifty little number, Christy drew inspiration from the Cetonia Aurata beetle (aka, Rose Chafer beetle) and her adaptation is spot on! Let It Beetle greets with a bright gold shimmer that shifts to a bold green with touches of blue and aqua and even pink at different angles. This polish can be worn on its own or as a topper over a darker shade. I’m so enamored with it and have admired it on my non-swatch hand for a while. I’m wearing three coats with a glossy topcoat.
Mother Nature contains the most wonderful palette of colors. From the varied hues splashed across a spring garden to the bold tones adorned by our feathered friends, flora and fauna color our world beautifully. And true color-lovers bug out over beetles! Like multichrome oil slicks, beetles can be twins with some of your favorite shifty polishes.
For the February Flora and Fauna theme, KBShimmer fell in love with the multi-chromatic Cetonia aurata beetle, or rose chafer beetle. From reds to gold to bright greens and deep blues, these beetles show off a rainbow of hues. Let It Beetle is inspire by these scarab beauties – Christy

Nailed It Nail Polish – I Got Lei’d

For I Got Lei’d Tiara drew inspiration from Hawaiian Flower leis. This beauty has red to gold light catching UCC flakies and red to gold Aurora shimmer in a purple jelly base. The flakes look so fiery in there and it has an intense, glowing shift that’s hard to miss! I’m wearing three coats with a glossy topcoat.

Necessary Evil Polish – Flight of the Monarch

For this round’s theme, Tamara has prepared for us a gorgeous blue polish as well as two other items. These were inspired by a monarch butterfly dangling on a branch, on a beautiful day with a clear blue sky.
Flight of the Monarchs has a, rich blue sparkly base that shifts between dark blue and bright maui blue. It is touched with scattered holographic sparkle and holographic flakes, iridescent flakes and a blue to purple to gold aurora pigment. It’s blurple element comes from the shift of that stunning aurora! It’s a lot more evident to the naked eye! There’s a really nice depth to this polish and the crelly-esque consistency of the base allows all the elements to shine. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

Necessary Evil Wax – Monarch Sanctuary
Tamara’s next contribution is a pair of sunflower shaped wax melts. Monarch Sanctuary carries the scent blend of gardenia, sunflower, black pepper and ozone. To me, it presents as very floral with a very slight peppery kick at the end. The wax is on the firmer side and you would need to apply a bit of pressure to cut into it.

Painted Polish – Hot 4 Herbology
Lexi crafted a polish inspired by the magical and colorful wizarding world of Herbology! Hot 4 Herbology has a lush, emerald jelly base which houses a rainbow of color-shifting flakes, silver holographic galaxy glitters, and a scattering of holographic sparkles. The depth of green here is so rich, it easily allows the colorful flakes to pop. Everything lays well and dries down fairly smooth. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

Paradox Soap Co – The Monarch
Tamara also used her inspiration of that beautifully perched monarch butterfly in her soap this month. The Monarch is a vegan soap bar fashioned using a butterfly swirl technique. This soap bar is scented with a floral mix of gardenia and orchid. It features shades of orange, black, blue and white. If you’re curious about the ingredients, the list is captured in one of the images down below.

Sweet Heart Polish – Purple Lilies

For her polish this month, Cassandra was inspired by the Purple Prince Lily! Purple Lilies has Ultra Chameleon Chrome flakes alongside purple to pink to gold, and bright pink metallic micro shards in a deep purple jelly base. I love how that the jelly base allows all those elements to come through! In a word, squishy!! I’m wearing three coats with a glossy topcoat

Vapid Lacquer – Understory
There are three items available from Vapid this month; two from Krys at Vapid Lacquer and the other from Jennifer at Vapid Wax. They all bear the same name, Understory. Understory refers to the lower layer of the rainforest canopy. The polish features color shifting iridescent flakes in a thermal base that transitions from black when cool to teal green when warm. It applies with ease and I love how the large flakes look in both states. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.

Vapid Lacquer – Understory Nail Sauce
Krys’ nourishing and moisturizing nail sauce has the scent Understory! Understory is fruity and sandalwood touched, with tropical air and a bit of damp earth. Although more muted that the wax, I note the tropical tones with touches of earthiness. The consistency of the nail sauce is a little thinner than body lotion. It needs to be rubbed into to skin for absorption. Also included below is picture of the ingredients!

Vapid Wax – Understory Wax Melt
Finally, from Vapid Wax, Jenn’s wax also carries the scent profile Understory, just like the nail sauce. However, the scent carries strongest in the wax. Understory is fruity and sandalwood touched, with tropical air and a bit of damp earth. Tropical sweetness, lush greenery and touches of earthiness are the prominent notes for me. It mixes all of my favorite scents in a wonderfully balanced way!
Understory wax is colored light blue and comes in a 3 oz clamshell block. It is lightly dusted with a shifty shimmer and micro glitters!
