Summer Season is furiously heading our way! For us down in Florida that means temperamental weather; if it could snow here, it probably would. Thankfully, we have the consistency of the Holo Hookup Box! July’s Box celebrates Festival Fun, from music to sports, art and even ice fishing; the four makers are bringing you something extra special, inspired by festivals hailing from their neck of the woods.
Festival Fun – Holo Hookup
The Holo Hookup is a monthly box that features three permanent makers. Sara of Cupcake Polish, Missi of Different Dimensions and Jill of Glisten & Glow invite another indie maker to create a polish to go along with a chosen theme. This month’s guest maker is Mariah of Great Lakes Lacquer. Expect to see a range of colors here, not only of polish, but, let face it, my skin. When it comes to neons and cooler tones, that’s just the way it goes with photographing these, and I prefer to get the polish shade correct and forgo pretty skin. Okay! Let’s get to it!
Cupcake Polish – Wildflower Child

As usual, we start things off with Sara’s beauty, Wildflower Child. Wildflower Child is described as a neon purple linear holographic polish brimming with fine blue micro glitter, blue iridescent flakes and more iridescent flakes that shift pink to gold to orange! It’s so colorful and I’m loving to punch of blue in here. The polish is slightly on the thicker side and a bit of bumpiness is left behind; all of which should be expected by the flakes and glitters in there. Despite this, Wildflower Child isn’t hard to work with and the bumpiness is easily smoothed away with topcoat. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
Inspired by the Wildflower Festival in Richardson, TX where Cupcake Polish is created. The Wildflower Festival promotes the cultivation of regional wildflower, musicians, and local artists as well as bringing in nationally popular acts to headline the music festival.
Different Dimension – 500 Festival
There’s something always alluring about a highlighter yellow polish, and Missi does not disappoint with 500 Festival! In fact, it was the first one I reached for a few weeks ago when I needed to hop out of a funk.
The 500 Festival has a bright, highlighter yellow base packed with iridescent flakes that shift blue to green to gold, as well as iridescent color shifting glitters. Topping this off are holographic micro flakes that gives off a soft holographic effect against the brightness. The polish has a great opacity, yet allows all the elements to come through really breaking up the yellow base with subtle, yet appreciated pops of color. It has a medium, easily workable consistency with little to no texture. Again, because it deserves to be mentioned again, I’m really impressed by the balance of opacity and crelly consistency. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
Inspired by the 500 Festival which is a month-long festival in Indianapolis, IN which is where Different Dimension is headquartered. 500 Festival spans the entire month of May and includes sporting events, parades, musical performances, and community events to celebrate the Indianapolis 500 race.
Glisten & Glow – Peace, Love & Music
Peace, Love & Music comes complements of Jill! Jill describes this hot one as a neon red holographic base with color shifting iridescent flakes. The polish applies with buttery smoothness and ease and dries to a glossy finish. The flakes in there are not over the top, but they are easy to find and they stay put. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
While Peace, Love & Music is defined as a red neon, it looks more like an orange neon to me both in the bottle and on my nails. Now, I’m aware that my pictures of this shade appear with a more reddish tone, gradient like even. This is just my camera’s usual struggle with capturing neons, especially oranges. I truly apologize for this. The closest equivalent to the true tone is the middle part of my macro, that bright orange bit. It’s truly spectacular!
Inspired by the iconic Woodstock Festival which is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary with another legendary festival in August 2019. Woodstock just may be the greatest concert ever!
Great Lakes Lacquer – BYOS (Bring Your Own Shanty)

It’s always a pleasure to work with Mariah so of course, I busted out my super authentic French giggle, “hon hon hon” when I saw her polish. BYOS (Bring Your Own Shanty), is a vibrant, frozen lake blue holographic base with iridescent flakes that shift green to blue to purple and a smattering of green shimmer. BYOS is flakie galore! Mariah did not go sparingly here. Despite this, this polish applies with ease and dries to a smooth finish. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
Inspired by Houghton Lakes annual Tip Up Town, Michigan’s premier ice fishing festival. There are many activities besides ice fishing contests to indulge in, like the turkey bowling contest and the polar bear dip. Winter is never boring at Houghton Lake’s Tip Up Town. Just make sure to BYOS.
Oh what Festival Fun!
