Are you ready for the New Year? I most definitely am not, but here we are, with collections and releases that already point to 2019. We will be taking a look at January’s Holo Hookup Box which is sporting the exciting theme Cell-A-Brate Biology. I love that this round isn’t taking the usual route of New Years but gears toward science. As always, we have four beautiful polishes to ogle! Let’s get to it!
The Holo Hookup is a monthly box that features three permanent makers. Sara of Cupcake Polish, Missi of Different Dimensions and Jill of Glisten & Glow invite another indie maker to create a polish to go along with a chosen theme. This month’s guest maker is Sarah of Bees Knees Lacquer. Let’s take a look at these bright beauties!
Cupcake Polish – Highly Cultured
Starting things off is Sara’s searing pink, Highly Cultured. Highly Cultured has a bright and bold hot pink linear holographic base mixed with opal iridescent glitters. I really enjoy the glitters in here! They don’t add a whole lot of contrast, but instead, they provide an almost monochromatic pop of color at different angles. You do get some slight bumps from these glitters but the application of a good topcoat helps smooth it out. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
I love brains…eh…biology! For this look, I used my favorite black stamping polish paired with stamping images from Clear Jelly Stamper #42.
Different Dimension – I Got My Ion You
I love the color combination of teal and gold and this is exactly what Missi gives us here. I Got My Ion You is a teal cream with a linear holographic effect and gold microflakes. The gold flakes are the real star here for me! They’re well behaved and pop nicely against the base. Here, I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
I hadn’t done some gradient stamping in a while and I think the tone on tone look works well here. I used images from the Lina Nail Art Supplies Hipster plate and topped with a matte topcoat.
Glisten & Glow – #Cellfie
Boy am I feeling this shade. #Cellfie is a mustard yellow linear holographic polish with silver holographic microglitters and a brilliant red to pink shimmer. I love a good mustard polish and the warmth yet brightness of this shade really does it for me. Adding to its appeal is that it’s nearly full coverage and glossy in one coat. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
I like big books and I cannot lie! Well, these are meant to look like reading glasses but Sam said that they looked like sunglasses! Either way, I’m pleased as pie with them. I used both the Clear Jelly Stamper and Lina plate for this look.
Bees Knees Lacquer – Asp Me About It
Bees Knees brings a fun magnetic to the box! Asp Me About It has a warm, navy linear holographic base which exposes a gold to copper shift when the magnet is applied to it. The formula made me do a little jig in that it’s buttery smooth yet pigmented enough to wear as one coat. I even avoided my go-to third coat for magnetics with it. I’m wearing two coats with a glossy topcoat.
As usual, I’m also showing this polish without the magnetic effect.
On doing this piece, I realized this is my first magnetic stamping! I know, I know, but here we are. Here, I wanted the magnetic flash to be highlighted by the stamping. For this look, I once again used the Clear Jelly Stamper plate.
I’m really feeling the colors in this box! And the addition of a magnetic is a nice plus!
